What are we supposed to do with old flashlight batteries? I have heard that we are not supposed to just toss them in the trash with everything else. So I have a little shoebox with old batteries in it. But there never seems to be a day when the trash trucks pick up hazardous waste. I know there must be lots of people with old cans of paint, old rusty gas cans and dead batteries stuck in their garages and sheds. What are we supposed to do with this stuff?

No Fried Chicken

There used to be lots of places to buy fried chicken around here. Of course, everyone has a Kentucky Fried Chicken place. But we also had Mrs. Winners, Church’s, Popeye’s and a couple others. For some reason all the ones around me – within a 15 minute drive – have closed except for the KFC. What’s up with that?
Corn Flakes

Seems like corn flakes have been around my entire life. Do you use corn flakes for anything besides a breakfast cereal? I do.
You can melt butter and marshmallows and stir in corn flakes instead of rice krispies for a sweet snack.
Cornflakes make a great crunchy topping for casseroles and baked macaroni and cheese.
Cornflakes dumped on an enemy’s lawn will kill the grass and be extremely difficult to clean up once they get wet.
Or so I hear.
Sunday Drive

One of the things I miss from childhood is the weekly Sunday Drive. My father would take any of the kids who wanted to go for the ride and head out for a couple of hours. Sometimes he knew ahead of time where he wanted to go and other times he would call out, “Pick a road!” or “Pick north or south!” As we rode around he would point out places that he used to go, houses that he built, new buildings or signs. We talked about family, the future, and things to be grateful for. Then the price of gas shot up and made the weekly drive cost prohibitive. Those were good times and I miss them.
Summer Coming

The start of summer is not officially until June 20. But around here the temps have been in the 80′s already and its nice enough weather to go swimming if you can find a pool open already. This weekend will be the Memorial Day holiday weekend, which is the unofficial start of summer. Who’s ready for the lake?
